About

Julia by mes is a visual artist who began creating in 2024, having never drawn before (not even doodled). She works with fineliner, alcohol markers, and acrylic markers on paper, as well as with acrylic markers and acrylic paint on rocks.

Julia lives with dissociative identities and brings this perspective into her practice, drawing from lived experience to shape her work.

She holds a Master’s degree in Criminology and has worked in senior roles across Human Resources and International Relations. She is also the author of one book and the editor of another, both focused on stalking and harassment.

Julia calls her style post-traumatic pop art, a blend of vibrant colour, intuitive storytelling and emotional truth. Though new to the art world, she approaches her practice with curiosity, intention, and an unmistakable spark of quirk.

Artist Statement

I’m Julia by mes, and through my art I tell stories of identities, trauma, and healing.

My work is full of contrasts and symbols. I use bright, vibrant colours and a style that might seem playful or even childlike at first glance. I work primarily with fineliner, alcohol markers, and acrylic markers on paper, as well as with acrylic markers and acrylic paint on rocks. Simple materials that invite raw, honest expression. What appears colourful and light holds a heavier truth underneath. That contradiction is what fascinates me as an artist.

When I create, I’m on a journey, telling a story. And I invite you to join me by connecting with your own. My art offers a space for memories, feelings, reflection, and connection. The flowing lines I use link shapes and figures, representing emotional threads, unspoken relationships, and invisible ties to the past.

If my drawings stir something in you, if they connect you to your own experiences or evoke unexpected feelings, then I’ve done what I set out to do.

I believe that when we allow ourselves to feel, especially the messy and difficult parts, we create space for healing. Thank you for being here. I hope you find something in my work that speaks to you, and maybe even helps you speak to yourself.
